Okay, this was suppose to be posted Oct. 9th, the anniversary of Tarantula Ghoul show aka House of Horror on KPTV, Portland OR. Obviously, HoH was a homage, to Vampira-who went to high school in Astoria, OR before her hollywood days. Besides, a few magazine articles, a novelty 45RPM, and some publicity stills nothing exists of Tarantula Ghoul outside the memories of Portlanders.

Okay, I'm late. On Oct. 07th 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died. Today read one of his works. Don't watch an adaption. Sure, those Roger Corman/ Vincent Price/AIP Poe movies are loads of fun, but Edgar Allan Poe works in their natural state... wow! Just read The Raven, if you're pressed for time. If you read it in High School, read it again. Good stuff.

Encounter With The Unknown

Rod Serling narrates this trio of supernatural events purported to have actually happened. Not to cast aspersions on Rod Serling's narrative claims, but these stories in this movie sound like Urban Legends to me. Encounter is a low rent Twilight Zone wannabe with a low budget charm. Well worth wasting the time to watch it, even if just for Rod Serling.

The Chicago Museum of Broadcasting post three, count'em 3, thought to be long lost episodes of the original Svengoolie show on their already awesome website! All the host segments of Svengoolie (clappers no longer labeled SYT = Screaming Yellow Theater) shows #59, #60 and #61 from March and April 1973. Christmas came early!Go watch! Now! Cool Threadless Zombie shirt

Years ago, Target started selling cheap Halloween shirts. Each season they would stock a dozen or so styles different ones for boys, girls, women, and men. They were $5 and every year I'd grab a couple. Sure they were cheaply made, and even more cheaply printed. But they were perfect for wearing a couple times in Oct then put away til next year. Then wearing out and becoming a rag or part of a cat bed. The last few years, I haven't seen any cheap Halloween tees at Target. I've seen $10+ holiday tees, but not the $5 ones. Wal-mart has kinda picked up the slack with thier shirts, but they aren't the same. Some of the designs are cool, and some even glow in the dark. These days $10 you got Woot!, Threadless on sale, and a bunch of cool online shirt sites.

Got my Monster Bash postcard in the mail today. Like every year, I *sigh* and wish I could go to this show, Chiller, Horrorhound, and bunches of other way cool monsterkid/horror conventions. And I wish there was stuff like this in Horroregon. There are conventions, but they tend to be, I dunno, *not horror*. There's, or at least there was, the Hallowe'en Bazaar, Vampire’s Masquerade Ball , Dark Alice in Wonderland Ball, assorted costumed pubcrawls, and complete insane fun! Nearly every day something is going on in Portland, Salem and surrounding cities. It is pretty much DIY Halloween everyday sort of fun. Still, I miss conventions. There's nothing like spending the weekend with monsterkids. You geekspeak horror movie trivia and understand why Vincent Price is sooo cool and The Crimsom Cult sucks even though it stars Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee and Barbara Steele. In Horroregon, you have to wade through an ocean of hipsters trying to make the scene and trying to be all ironic or something. Whatever. Still, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Where else can you go to Trader Vic's with a dozen people dressed as pirates and no one blinks an eye? Or sit out on a patio sipping a cappuccino and hundreds of naked people on bikes ride by?

Ub Werks take on the Washington Irving story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for his ComiColor Cartoon series filmed in cinecolor (a two color process with a limited palette.) Ub Werks, creator of Mickey Mouse, was one of Disney's top artists before he left the company to form his own studio, eventually returning to work for Disney and winning two Academy Awards.

It's getting to be that time of year again. You could have fooled me with these 90+ degree days past Labor Day! Hopefully, this warm weather will soon be replaced with brisk days and turning leaves. Around here, Halloween is a month long celebration. It's only fitting I join in on the Countdown fun and blog.

Newest Timekiller - Zombie Restaurant

Here's a screen capture from my latest timekiller, Zombie Restaurant. It's an iphone app freemium game, but unlike Zombie Cafe, one doesn't need to spend $$$ to earn premium items. I hope this game app lasts longer than Monsterz Revenge. It is slightly different from most of the other zombie restaurant games. This one humans feed the zombies body part dishes you cook then serve. Human staff puts food on the tables and zombies arrive and nom nom nom. No food; they riot and destroy the city where your restaurant dwells. Like I said, a timekiller.

The first screen adaption of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend" to reach the silver screen.(Hammer's adaption never really got out of development) Vincent Price plays scientist Robert Morgan, the last human survivor on a world ravaged by bloodthirsty vampires. One of Price's best movies. Vincent Price was born a 100 years ago, hence 2011 is his Vincentennial, which is being celebrated worldwide.
